Wood Drive Temporarily Closed
Wood Drive will temporarily be closed at the Sandown Road intersection from 19 August until 4 September 2020 for roadworks.
The closure is needed to allow the contractor to rebuild the intersection at Wood Drive and Sandown Road.
The project entails the construction of two additional vehicle lanes, pedestrian sidewalks, the installation of underground services and associated streetlights and traffic signals. Thus, a temporary road closure is necessary.
‘I understand that this is a busy intersection of the road. With the easing of the levels of the national lockdown, it is envisaged that most people will be returning to places of work, and more people will be affected. However, I want to appeal to motorists and other road users to please bear with us during this time. Roadworks always come with some level of inconvenience and cannot be avoided as we need to keep on upgrading our road network. I advise road users to please plan their journeys ahead of time, and to make use of alternative and detour routes, if possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.
Adequate signage will be in place to guide road users.
The MyCiTi bus stop opposite the Sandown Retail Centre will be affected as well, but temporary bus stops are located along Sandown Road to the east and west of the Wood Drive intersection.
Alternative routes from Sandown Road to Wood Drive will be via Braselton Road, Whitehall Way or Koeberg Road as indicated on the traffic management plan.
