Skip the Kreef – It’s endangered

Skip the kreef this summer, don’t eat it, don’t catch it and don’t buy it. The West Coast Rock Lobster has been moved to the Red list of the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI). Green is “best choice”, Orange is “think twice” and Red is “don’t buy”.

The WWF SASSI program has launched a digital campaign urging consumers to “Skip the kreef this summer”. If drastic action is not taken this popular seafood treat will not be on the menu within the next 5 years.

WWF-SASSI Manager Pavitray Pillay commented: “This is a fishery in crisis and we need real leadership to turn it around. Consumers have a key role to play in supporting legitimate fishers and demanding change through their buying practices.”
