Be Aware of Card Skimming Devices in Restaurants
The South African Police Service is urging the community to always be in control of their bank cards. Never let the person handling the card be out of sight. Should the person handling the card indicate a problem, ask for your card back while another device is collected to complete the transaction.
This warning comes after a 30-year-old waiter at a popular restaurant in the Table View area was arrested by members of a specialised unit of the SAPS on Wednesday, 21 November 2018.
Information was shared by a bank who suspected suspicious transactions linked to the restaurant. On the day of the arrest, the employee was found in possession of a handheld skimming device, as well as a booklet with evidence of bank card numbers,
