StreetFest at Killarney – 28 December
StreetFest hits Killarney on Saturday 28 December in partnership with the City of Cape Town. A celebration of car culture featuring Drag Racing, an IASCA Sound-Off, Show ‘n Shine, music from the Coca-Cola Gig Rig and a host of stalls offering a huge variety of motoring-related merchandise, and good stuff to eat and drink.
The eighth edition of Killarney’s StreetFest promises to be the biggest and wildest yet, with some of South Africa and Namibia’s fastest street cars and motorcycles burning rubber on the drag-strip in their attempts to show the Cape crews how it’s done.
Mayoral Committee member for Safety & Security, Alderman JP Smith said: “Cape Town has one of the most enthusiastic motorsport fan bases and this is evident by the numbers that descend on the Killarney International Raceway for every race event.
“As the City of Cape Town, we are proud to support events which contribute to our economy, provide opportunities for our residents while also giving petrolheads a platform for more responsible racing instead of illegal street racing which unfortunately remains very prevalent on our roads, often with devastating consequences.
“We wish all the participants a safe race and we would like to encourage residents to head to Killarney to support the drivers. ”
The IASCA Sound-Off in the New Pits is sanctioned by the world body and any records set here will be recognised worldwide. In addition to a full entry of local competitors, there will be cars from all around South Africa taking part in this prestigious competition.
At the same time, proud owners of custom, modified and ‘stance’ cars will be lining up their creations and giving them a final polish for the Show ‘n Shine awards and the Limbo competition.
Here you’ll see just what can be done in the backyards and workshops of Cape Towns car culture without the help of the massive aftermarket available to their counterparts in Gauteng. Almost completely locally sourced, these unique vehicles truly reflect the personalities of their owners.
There will also be a fully-equipped children’s play area just below the New Pits Lounge, as well as row upon row of food stalls and vendors offering motoring-related merchandise.
Gates open at 6:30 am on Saturday 28 December (with Sunday 29 December pencilled in as rain date). There will be on-track action from 9:00 am, as well as the Sound-Off and displays from 10:00 am to around 5:00 pm. Book through Computicket at or pay at the gate: R90 for adults, R40 for scholars under 16 and free for children under 12.
