Shark Spotters App Launches
With beach safety at the forefront and the summer season approaching, the City of Cape Town has launched a Shark Spotters mobile app. An application that gives water users real time information on shark risks and shark activity before going to the beach.
Shark spotters will be more efficient and effective as they will be uploading information while on duty to keep water goers updated and aware of current weather conditions, flag status and shark risks. The app even boasts surf related videos, maritime activity, water temperature and lunar phases.
‘We are very grateful to all individuals and organisations who contributed to making the app a reality and are very excited to be able to be a key partner in this initiative which offers such a valuable service to the community. Shark Spotters is an invaluable partner doing some great work and we are proud to be affiliated with this non-profit organisation,’ said Councillor Van der Merwe.
The Shark Spotters app is available on iOS and Android platforms and is free to download. For more information, contact Sarah Waries, the Shark Spotter Project Manager, on 078 174 4244.
