Riebeek Valley Olive Festival 2017
The much-loved annual Riebeek Valley Olive Festival takes place on 6th and 7th May 2017 in celebration of a successful olive harvest. Local wine and olive farms in Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West open their doors to visitors giving them the opportunity to taste award winning olives, wine and craft beer and other local produce and gifts.
The Riebeek Kasteel Town Square forms the heart of the festival with food and gift stalls, kids entertainment, live music and of course, lots of wine and olives.
Taste unique olive oils and olive preserves, delectable wines, craft beer on tap and all that Riebeek Valley has to offer. Each venue has its own unique flavour and you’ll be spoilt for choice as where to go next.
Sit contently under 150 year old trees at Kloovenburg, sip on their latest red and taste a variety of award-winning olive products while listening to a solo performance by Herman of the band TWEE. Don’t forget to take a guided walk through their olive groves.
Walk through endless stalls at the majestic Het Vlock Casteel to get to Ansie’s famous olives and olive preserves. The tunes of Jimm Harrison will heighten your experience of all that is on offer. Wine will be sold by the glass or bottle and, if you haven’t tasted olive oil ice cream – here’s your chance.
Newton and Co will bring Allesverloren, the popular wine farm and wedding venue, to life. Browse through their country market, sipping on Muskadel slush puppies while you try all there is to nibble on. Their wine shop will be open for tasting. A stop here is a must.
Join the Olive Boutique in celebrating this ancient fruit, the olive, by sitting down to a Swartland picnic with a choice of wine, craft beer or Craft Gins and Martinis. The Johnny Ray Acoustic Blues Band is sure to set the mood while you taste their gourmet olive products, award winning extra virgin olive oils and unfiltered oils.
Pulpit Rock has long been established as the Olive Festival’s “Potjie” locale. Sip some of the revered Pulpit Rock wines while enjoying their delicious potjies. The Antique Tractor Exhibition, the Ultimate Golf Challenge and free wine tasting are just some of the delights on offer.
The Wild Olive Acoustic Stage at Riebeek Cellars is set to party with appearances from Francois van Coke, Valliant Swart, Soetmelk, Marcia Moon, Mono Pony, Francios Haasbroek (Sunday only) and many more. A choice of gourmet food trucks and tasting the Riebeek Cellars wine is sure to put you in the swing of things. On Sunday, there is an exclusive behind the scenes wine tasting with the Riebeek Cellars winemakers – booking is essential.
Be sure to pop into eclectic Short Street at the pop up Martini Bar at The Alchemist where you can pair olives and gin to your hearts delight.
