Local Policing Takes to the Skies

Nora Grose, Ward 23 Councillor recently launched the Aerowing 1900 Twin Drone.

The concept of the drone was born one night while Councillor Nora Grose and the neighbourhood watch (NHW) were laying tugged into the wet and cold sand observing the activity of 30 abalone poachers in the nearby waters. An entire night spent on this operation leading to successful arrests.

“The following week the planning and discussion of a drone started. With the input and research done by the executive members of Melkbosstrand Neighbourhood Watch,  it was not hard to have consensus, we need the assistance of technology. I was convinced that we need to outsmart these very sophisticated criminals and drone technology is the answer.” – Nora Grose

Made from EPO foam and carbon fibre, the Aerowing 1900 Plus is robust and quiet, it is fully automated with automatic take-off, flight and landing. Flight plans can be modified in flight, or be steered in real time while holding heading, speed and altitude. It’s also an excellent observation platform with a 270-degree view and allows the operator to focus and search a reconnaissance.

“The drone will be used by the NHW for information gathering, assisting the SAPS and other agencies such as Marine and Fisheries, anti-land invasion units, illegal structures, copper theft, criminal activities, gang-related areas, fire and rescue operations, rural farm attacks, the list is endless.” – Nora Grose
