Load Shedding Imminent

Stock up on candles and be prepared for load shedding this weekend after Eskom was forced to shut down 11 power stations due to lack of maintenance.

Moneyweb reports the recent shut down of power station units results from a lack of funding. Eskom is also running out of coal.

Eskom’s electricity supply will be “definitively too short to meet reserves and, possibly, demand.” The power grid is said to be at risk until 17th December.

Moneyweb also reports that 11 of Eskom’s 15 coal-fired power stations have less than 20 days’ supply of coal left.
