Table Bay Mall Festive App

From 1 – 26 December shoppers at Table Bay Mall can get ready for something extra special and exciting, as the 21^st century and festive season come together in an all-new fun experience that will wow young and old – the Table Bay Mall Festive App, which features an augmented reality Santa Claus.

The Secret Santa feature on the mall’s festive app allows shoppers to scan one of eight different scenes with their iPhone or Android smartphone – signaled by large festive decals that have been scattered around the mall – and see Santa doing something fun within each scene Shoppers are then encouraged to take a photo with Santa through the app and upload their favourite photo to the Table Bay Mall Facebook page for a chance to win a share of R4 000 in vouchers.

Table Bay Mall, which opened its doors in September last year, quickly cemented itself as being ahead of its competitors in Cape Town – from their breathtaking architecture, to their environmental awareness, and digital screens – and a mobile application for the festive season feels like a natural move for this on trend shopping centre.

Talking about what drives Table Bay Mall to push the envelope and be innovative, Marketing Manager, Karla Linder, says “Shopping should not be a mundane task, but rather an experience that the whole family can enjoy together, and through our continued innovation, we believe we’ve achieved this and will continue to do so.”

Project lead for the Table Bay Mall Festive App, Jono Duguid of The Blue Room Marketing & Communications, says that the market is ready – “We’ve seen AR projects in the past, but the market in South Africa hasn’t been ready till now.” He adds, “Thanks to advancements in smartphones – almost all smartphones can handle the technology smoothly – and apps like Pokémon Go, augmented reality is no longer a foreign concept to South Africans, but an exciting, fun space; and we’ve been thrilled to work on this project with Table Bay Mall.”

The Table Bay Mall Festive App is available for download from iOS’ AppStore and Android’s Google Play Store from 1 December. Shoppers are invited to use Table Bay Mall’s free Wi-Fi to download the app, as well as upload their photos with Santa to Facebook for their chance to win a share of R4 000 in vouchers.

Other holiday activities at Table Bay Mall this Festive Season include a wrapping station, all proceeds of which will be donated to a local charity; a pianist serenading shoppers in the center court; a Build-a-Bear station; added kiddies enjoyment and more.
