Impact Study for Big Bay

Earlier this month the slipway at Big Bay collapsed, leaving rubble on the beach and loads of locals up in arms debating the best way forward. The area has been cordoned off indefinitely while a suitable resolve is found.

An impact study is currently underway by various departments of the City of Cape Town to determine the best way forward, this could take 3 – 4 months before a long term solution is reached.

It’s not as simple as merely replacing the slipway as nature comes into play. Changes in the ocean bed, rip currents, severe weather, disturbance of marine life and various other environmental issues will determine what measures to take to avoid this happening in the future.

The City of Cape Town is working on a feasible, environmentally friendly, long-term solution.
