GTC Extreme Festival
There’s a full day’s entertainment for the whole family lined up at the GTC Extreme Festival sponsored by Wingfield Motors at Killarney International Raceway on Saturday 11 May.
Headlining the musical action is B-Minor, fresh from a string of successful performances at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees; he’ll be rocking the gig rig at the Clubhouse from 5:30 – 7:00pm. B-Minor is the new face of acclaimed Afrikaans singer/songwriter Byron Minnie, putting a fresh spin on contemporary Afrikaans music with his own infectious melodies and insightful lyrics.
Before that, however, there’s a unique opportunity to get within arm’s length of a real modern-era Formula 1 car on the Red Bull stand. You can also try your F1 racing skills on one of two TGN simulators – and the driver who sets the fastest lap time on the day will win two VIP tickets for the Formula 1 Experience at the Red Bull Circuit in downtown Cape Town on Sunday 2 June.
The Clubhouse area has a festival of its own, with a mini-market of car displays, take-ways and memorabilia vendors on the front lawn, ice-cold drinks in the beer garden, a supervised children’s play area and nursery room for infants’ refuelling and nappy changing, and extreme entertainment such as Bumper Cars, Dart Soccer, Wipe Out Sweeper, an Inflatable Rodeo ride and even a snake show.
There’s fine food in the Trackside Pub and Grill upstairs, as well as light meals and cold drinks at the New Pits Lounge directly over the GTC and Polo Cup pits. The balcony of the Trackside Pub and Grille, as well as the New Pits Lounge, also have TV screens showing live timing as well as coverage of all the action from cameras around the entire circuit.
You can unleash your inner Lewis Hamilton in a powerful kart on the “K” circuit, while the kids enjoy pedal-powered karting, under supervision, on their own section of the circuit.
All this in addition to a full programme of National championship racing featuring the best of South African motorsport, including Global Touring Cars, Falken Polo Cup, Formula 1600s, Formula Vees, 1000cc and 600cc Superbikes, and Sports & GT Cars.

There’s more music at the Fan Walk on the circuit itself at lunchtime. Step down from the grandstands onto the track for a live performance by local rocker Jay Jay, while you check out the cars and motorcycles of the SA championship Global Touring Cars, the Falken Polo Cup cars and the incredible 200 horsepower Superbikes.
More than that, you get to meet the drivers and, unlike The Stig, see what they look like without their crash helmets; you can also meet Rocket the Kfm 94.5 mascot and get your picture taken with the Kfm 94.5 team.
