This week-long campaign encourages citizens to participate in the #LiveYourWild initiative by visiting national parks free of charge. SANParks is committed to providing all South Africans with equal opportunities, aligning with their vision of creating a “World class system of sustainable national parks reconnecting and inspiring society.” The primary goal is to inspire people to take pride in and relish their national parks while immersing themselves in the wonders of nature.
This year, the South African National Parks Week will commence at Kruger National Park. The central feature of this campaign is the provision of free access to all South African day visitors who carry their official Identity Documents. Young individuals under the age of 16 will also enjoy free access without the need for proof of identity.
Free access does not include accommodation and commercial activities within the parks, such as guided safaris or walks. Additionally, Namaqua National Park, Boulders Penguin Colony, and the Cableway in Table Mountain National Park are not included in the free access offer.
Since the program’s inception in 2006, approximately 691,418 South Africans have had the privilege of entering national parks during this initiative, and SANParks aims to see this number grow.
SANParks encourages all South Africans, particularly the youth, to mark these dates on their calendars and plan a visit to a nearby national park.
