Firework site to stay on Beachfront

Guy Fawkes 2016 saw 15 000 visitors flock to the beachfront in Table View. 528 Complaints were made, 1250 boxes of fireworks were confiscated and 23 fines totalling R34 500 were issued for the illegal sale of fireworks.

Killarney Race Track, Theo Marais Park, Woodbridge Island, Lagoon Beach, Eerste Steen, Kreefte Baai, Melkbosstrand, Eden on the Bay, Small Bay and Bloubergstrand were looked at as alternative sites and investigated by the Fire Department but none found to be sustainable. All alternatives have been exhausted and the site at Table View beachfront will remain.

“In light of a lack of a suitable alternative venue and in the interest of safety, we have decided to keep the site to allow the few hours of controlled use of Fireworks with on-scene resources as opposed to the unsupervised use with no on-scene resources.
