Cape Town Carnival 2016

This weekend will see the streets of the mother city lit up with colour, music, dance and festivities as the 7th annual Cape Town Carnival comes to town. The mother of all street parades.

‘Street Life’ is the theme for this year’s Cape Town Carnival happening on Saturday from 3pm. It promises to be a showcase of the diverse cultures of our country. Visitors will have the freedom of the city streets from 3pm with the magic beginning at 7pm.

Streets will be closed for final preparations at 6pm, giving you enough time to find the perfect spot to watch the festivities unfold.

Be prepared for mesmerising giant floats, wacky puppets and displays of amazing speciality acts – each purposefully designed, built and choreographed specifically for the ‘Street Life’ theme.

Spectators are encouraged to get involved by dressing up and spreading the festivities beyond the parade barriers.

Over 2 000 dazzling costumed performers and musicians will take to Cape Town’s Fan Walk, entertaining viewers with magical floats and vibrant dance routines. Over 50 000 people attended last years’ parade, organisers are anticipating a larger crowd this time round.

The Cape Town Carnival is a free event, you can however purchase tickets if you want to secure a seat along the route. Free WiFi too along the Fan Walk.

  • Can’t wait. I’m currently setting up a blog, a site that reveals Cape Town’s street life and urban narratives.
