Big Bay Beach Closed
Big Bay Beach in Bloubergstrand has been closed to the public until further notice. This is due to a dune collapsing in the area during the recent massive Cape storm. There will be no public access to Big Bay Beach until the stability of the dunes has been established. Eden on the Bay is still fully operational and all shops and restaurants are open. A City official was injured when the dune he was standing on collapsed.
‘Big Bay Beach has suffered extensive damage and erosion as a result of the stormy weather that Cape Town has experienced over the past 48 hours. The area is unstable and unsafe. We therefore urge the public to adhere to the interim restrictions for their own safety and not to access Big Bay Beach until further notice.
‘In the meantime, our officials are on site and are making every effort to determine the stability of the eroded shoreline at Big Bay. Members of the public should please adhere to the signage and red tape restricting access. We want to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area North, Councillor Suzette Little.
