All day traffic officers for Bayside

For the next 6 months, at the intersection of Blaauwberg Road and Bayside Mall there will be officers on duty to put a stop to the multiple violations that occur here. The officers will be issuing notices to any road user who violates a by-law, but they will be focusing on public transport service providers in particular.

This is a pilot project and the contracts expire at the end of June 2017.

‘I am delighted to announce that the officers reported for duty on Tuesday 6 December 2016 and will be based at the Bayside Mall seven days a week from 06:00 until 20:30. They will be enforcing City by-laws by issuing notices, meaning they have the same powers, authority, and responsibilities as those who are permanently employed by the City’s law enforcement units. As such, they will be able to issue fines and notices, and to make arrests,’ – Mayoral Committee Member: Councillor Brett Herron.

The pilot project in costing around R500 000 and is jointly funded by TCT, the Safety and Security Directorate, and Bayside Mall.
