Pink Buoys Saving Lives

Thanks to the NSRI, we now have Pink Rescue Buoys on our beachfront. The roll-out of the NSRI Pink Rescue Buoys started in November 2017 in a rapidly growing effort to make our waters safer and to prevent drowning incidents.

The rescue buoys are bright pink so that they can be easily spotted on the water by responding rescuers. They are unique to NSRI so if you see a Pink Rescue Buoy it belongs to Sea Rescue and should be returned to its sign after use.

Two Oceans Aquarium very generously sponsored 9 Pink Rescue Buoys, which translates to an impressive R25,000 project.

The locations are:

• 7th avenue slip Melkbosstrand
• Table View (webcam hosted by Primi Piatti)
• Big Bay, Blouberg (webcam hosted by Big Bay Lifesaving Club)
• Noordhoek Beach as well (webcam hosted by African Encounters)
• Kommetjie Long Beach (webcam hosted by The Last Word)
• Clifton 1^st Beach (webcam is actually on 4^th Beach but there is a greater risk on 1^st  Beach)
• 2 at Muizenberg  (webcams hosted by Corner Surf Shop and another Gary’s Surf School)
• Strand main beach (webcam hosted by Strand Lifesaving Club)

Each pole has a unique location number and an emergency phone number.  If you notice that the Pink Buoy is missing or has been tampered with – please call the NSRI head office, Two Oceans Aquarium or the emergency number on the sign.
