New development on the cards for Melkbos
The City of Cape Town intends to develop Erf 1694 in Melkbosstrand. This area is approximately 151 hectares in total. It is proposed to develop 55 hectares of the land, 18 hectares for mixed use with residential and commercial space and the balance dedicated to conservation through an ecological corridor.

There are two alternative design options for the development. Both include a large conservation area in the middle of the site stretching from Melkbosstrand Road to Birkenhead Drive.
