Free rides on MyCiti for the Unemployed

Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille announced that the City will subsidise MyCiti bus rides for the unemployed. This initiative is aimed at job seekers who will be allowed to travel for free during off-peak times on the MyCiti bus service.  The unemployed will be able to tap their MyConnect cards between 10am and 3.30pm at no cost.

Plans are underway to take effect by the end of September this year and the City is aiming to set aside R6.6 million for this. It is hoped the initiative will take away the barrier of travel costs for job seekers and encourage those to use the service to actively seek employment.
