Camphill Village Country Market
If you’re looking for a different day out you should try the Camphill Country Market, held on the first Sunday of the month just up the N7 on Klein Dassenberg Road. Camphill Village is a dynamic community working with intellectually challenged adults who care for the environment and produce quality products in a natural farm setting.
The market on 4th June is set in the cosy, grassy area surrounded by trees beside the spacious hall which houses the restaurant, coffee shop, vendors and entertainment. This month sees a number of new vendors and a new array of home décor, jewellery, crockery, plant, pet and cosmetics products.
The usual mouth-watering offering from the stalls and vendors includes burgers, breakfast rolls, boerewors rolls, rooties and pancakes. The Camphill Coffee Shop will be offering a chicken and a cashew nut stir fry for Sunday lunch with a vegetarian version. There’s a nice selection of cakes and crumbles and baked apples for dessert.
Camphill Village has their own bakery, herb garden, dairy, farm and also makes cosmetics. You can join in informative demonstrations and guided walks covering topics such as caring for plants and animals over the seasons, alternative energy, helpful home growing tips, baking and cosmetics best practices. A walking tour through parts of the village (weather permitting) tells you more about the village and the working farm that has been running since 1964. Demonstrations and guided walks are free but bookings are required.
This month’s live performance at the market will be by Faye & Wren, their amazing mix of folk and melodies is always a crowd pleaser. As usual, there will be tractor rides, a jungle gym, picnic area and plenty of space for the kids to roam around.
