135 Days of Water Left

Dam levels have dropped to 35%, down 1,2% from a week ago. Effectively dam levels are at 26,2% as 10% of a dam’s water cannot be used. On average Cape Town is using 825 million litres of water a day. The City has now lowered its water consumption target to 700 million litres a day. That means we need to cut water consumption by 125 million litres a day.

With these figures in mind, we will have approximately 135 days of useable water left.

There is light at the end of the tunnel as the City is confident that we will have enough water to reach the rainy season.

“We remain confident at this time that with the help of all role-players, we will manage to reach the rainfall season with water left in the system,” Anton Bredell said in a statement.

The City of Cape Town is urging residents to use water sparingly and to report those misusing.
