Celebrate the Battle of Blaauwberg
It’s been 210 years since the Battle Of Blaauwberg and the Friends of Blaauwberg Conservation Area will be celebrating the event on the battle site. Walk in the footsteps of the British as they marched to face local troups on an early morning of January 1806.
Everyone is invited to the event that had such an impact on South African history. Dave Honour, registered tour guide and expert on KZN battle sites, will lead the walk dropping interesting facts along the way.
The walk starts at 6am at Blaauwberg Farm and will slowly progress to the top of Blaauwberg Hill. The Reserve is not open to the public so this event presents a unique opportunity to enjoy the view, and to also see the fauna and flora of this important biodiversity spot in the heart of suburbia.
The event on the Hill will conclude with a cannon fire. Back at Blaauwberg Farm kids can enjoy the pony rides, jumping castles and tractor rides to the bottom of the Hill. Burgers and drinks will be available for the hungry and thirsty on return to the farm around 12pm.
The Farm will also host exhibitions on the Battle of Blaauwberg and between 4pm and midnight you can enjoy live music and a potjie supper.
