Beloved Newlands to be demolished
It has been reported that next year will be the last for WP Rugby at Newlands. The Western Province Rugby Football Union will be paid R110 million from Investec for a 99-year leasehold agreement they have voted to enter in to.
The iconic 51 900 capacity stadium is set to be demolished with retail and residential properties to take its place.
The Cape Town Stadium is expected to be the new home of WP Rugby in Green Point from 2021.
Fact: Newlands is the second oldest rugby stadium in the world with the first official match kicking off on 31st May 1890.
