Don’t Text and Drive – #ItCanWait

The Western Cape Government recently launched the #ItCanWait campaign. Directed at those who text and drive and reminding drivers no call or text is worth your life. The top three driver behaviours that cause the most fatalities are alcohol, speed and cell-phones.

This advert emphasizes the fact we can’t walk and text so why should you drive and text.

The concept of multi-tasking is a dangerous myth and can be deadly serious on the road. Our brains are just not wired to do more than one thing at the same time. Brain activity in the areas that process moving images decreases by over 33% when we are talking on our phone. This means we effectively become partially blind when we use our cell-phone while driving.

No text message is so important that it is worth a human life: it can wait.
